2.  Think about one of your photos that would be appropriate for the cover for our End of Year Show, “FLASHBACK” to be held at the Miami-Dade Public Library, Palmetto Bay Branch, May 11, 2010, 6:30 – 8:00pm. 

3.  Using the info in the chapter, prepare a mock-up of a program for the show.   Include graphics:  title, group, location, date.

4.  Locate your cover on 81/2” X 11” paper.  Arrange it so that the page can be folded in half with the cover on the front.  Show me.

1.  Research Photomontage.  Look at pp. 210-211 in History of Photo.   2.  Define it.  Who made this kind of photo work?  Why?  When did photographers begin to do this?

E.  SKETCHBOOK

1.  Make a photomontage using your own photos.  Place it in your sketchbook.  

2.  Opposite your photomontage write a paragraph to describe it and its meaning.

B.  DIGITAL  

1.  Shoot a series of 3 photos that are related to one another.  

2.  Make another series on a different subject.  Share the best at critique.

C.  TEXT:

1.  Read the info in Photoshop text lesson 9, “Special Effects.”

2.  Make an outline with a list of steps to follow to make special effects. 

3.  Then select a photo that would be appropriate to turn into a traditional piece of art, watercolor, pastel or sketch using the effects in the chapter.

    4.  If you like the “artwork,” print it for critique.  Show me on the screen.

5.  Find out what it means for an artist to make a series.   Who did so?  What was the series about?  Why do you think she/he made a series?

1. Take photos. Consider composition so they can be manipulated as in section C below. Print the best at home. Present them at critique.

1. Read the Photoshop text lesson 8, “Advanced Layer Techniques.”
2. Outline the chapter in your binder as you read.
3. Create a clipping group on one of your photos with the info you read.
4. Use an adjustment layer to edit one of your images.
5. Show your work on the screen for a grade. Save on a stick to print at home.

1. Look up Clarence White in the History of Photography text. You may use the internet, but not Wikipedia.

1. Carefully follow the directions for a Making a Photo Transfer to create photo transfer of the self-portrait you made last week.
2. Work mindfully cleaning up as you go. Take special care of brushes used with acrylic medium.
3. Be sure you can easily find your SB when it is drying in the DR.

Week of December 13 – 17:  

A.  Digital Photography

1.  If you enter Scholastics, mat your photo and fill out the form in duplicate to attach it to the back of the mat.

2.  If you are entering the JOB competition, read the instructions and save your photo to disc.  Label it as directed.

B  Greeting card:  (to send or give as a gift.) 

a.  Photograph subjects suitable for a greeting card.  Print the best. 

         b.  Cut off the borders and center the image on a card.  

C.  Preparation for the Midterm Exam

1.  Organize your notebook for 2 grades.  Place each assignment sheet from 1A to 9A in order.  Then:
      a.  Label each Text assignment with the number of its assignment sheet.

b.  Label each Photo History  assignment by number also.  Know them.

2.  Finally, go back and read each one.  Highlight the important vocabulary and information.    

D.  Garden

1.  You may help in the garden, if your work is finished.  

2.  Bring newspapers to place before we mulch the garden.

1. Make photos of subjects that are off-center.  Again scan the frame to check for composition.

1. Read lesson 5 in the Photoshop 5.0 text.

2. Then write questions and answers to the following:  Restate the question in your answer.

a. What is the purpose of a quick mask?

b. When you deselect a quick mask what happens?

c. Where’s the work stored when you save a selection as a mask?

d. Once you’ve saved a mask as a channel, how can you edit it?

e. Describe how layers differ from channels.

3. Use this info on two of your photos to improve it.  Print before and after images.

D. Photo History

Work with a partner to create a new PowerPoint presentation about one of these photographers:  Niepce, Daguerre, Southworth, Hawes, Bayard, Talbot, Nadar, Fenton, Cameron, Brady, Jackson, Muybridge, Emerson, Stieglitz, Kassebier.  Decide which one to do and let me know so we don’t have duplicates.  Limit yourself to 4 frames.  Tell the b/d and country.  Explain what the artist did to advance photography.  Show 2-3 photos that you like.  Title and date them.  Title the PP file with the photographer’s full name and your last names.

E. Photo Sketchbook

Draw your best original cover plan in pencil on the front of your SB.  Spread newspaper on the table.  Use color pencils to color your original plan.  Then use acrylic paint to color it on the SB.  Use original color, not color right out of the bottle.  Clean up the area and the brushes.
