2.  Enlarge your 3 best photos as a series.  Label them with name, time exposed in enlarger, and neg sleeve number on the back.  Prepare to present at critique.  Present them at the critique.

1.   Look at David Hockney’s photographic experiments online.  Visit his photographic collages.  We will look at some together.

2.  Use the information to create a “traditional artwork” from one of your digital photos.  Show me before you print it.

Assignments will be graded by: Friday, December 17 and Jan 7, 2011.

 

Week of December 13 – 17: 

A.  Digital Photography

1.  Take photographs in the dance studio.  Look for interesting angles and compositions.  Get close.  

2.  Print the  photo in a 5 X 7” format to share at critique on Dec. 17.

3.  If you enter Scholastics, mat your photo and fill out the form in duplicate to attach it to the back of the mat.

 

B  Greeting card:  (to send or give as a gift.) 

a.  Photograph subjects suitable for a greeting card.  Print the best. 

        b.  Cut off the borders and center the image on a card.  

 

C.  Preparation for the Midterm Exam

1.  Organize your notebook for 2 grades.  Place each assignment sheet from 1A to 9A in order.  Then:
      a.  Label each Text assignment with the number of its assignment sheet.

          b.  Label each Photo History  assignment by number also.

2.  Finally, go back and read each one.  Highlight the important vocabulary and information.         

 

D.  Field trip

1.  Get signatures for the parent permission form from your teachers

        2.  Buy film and fresh batteries for your cameras.

A. Film Photography 

Get ready for the trip to Deering:  film, batteries.

1. Expose a new roll looking for night photos.  Compose (frame) mindfully.  You may need to use a tripod or able for the camera.

2. Work on the correct exposure for your photos.  Read your manual to see if there is a light meter in the camera to help you.  Print a contact sheet.

3. Sleeve negs with labels:  name, date, subject.  Print the best 2 for crit.

4. Arrange your portfolio selections in order, best-least.  Show me.

B. Digital

1. Make 20 night photos.  Practice skills in the text reading for Photoshop, lesson 5.  

2. Select your favorite so that we can discuss improving it with Photoshop.

3. Use the chapter information to demonstrate your skills 2 photos.

D. Photo History

Work with a partner to create a new PowerPoint presentation about one of the historic photographers we have studied.  Use only 4 frames.  Select Niepce, Daguerre, Talbot, Nadar, Fenton, Cameron, Brady, Muybridge, Emerson, Stieglitz, Hine, Atget, Man Ray.  Refer to past history assignments for info required.  Save on thumb-drive to present.

E. Photo Sketchbook

Make 2 drawing of small still life arrangements.  Use values or color with values.  Complete each drawing out to the edge of the page.  Arrange objects to make an interesting composition.  Let the drawing go out of format (off the edges) 3 times.

F. Applications for 9th grade

Complete the general application for Magnet Schools.  Xerox the app so you have 2 copies.  Bring it and the recommendation pages from your 5 choices in for a grade.  Fill out the individual applications for your 5 choices in preparation to transport them to the schools.  Check for Magnet Fairs this week.  Find out for each one when tours are provided to prospective students.  Make an appointment to visit each school.

3. Under the drawing write a page that tells about his contribution to photo history and about the kinds of photos he liked to make.  Note his b/d dates.  What breakthrough did he make in photography?

1. Make 2 observational drawings.  One must be in B/W the other in color.

C. Research

1. On the Internet find out about 5 schools you would like to apply to for 9th grade.

2. Print out a magnet application.  Print out the individual application.

3. Write down when each school invites visitors to tour the school.

4. Write down the date the school has a magnet fair or workshop.

5. Write down what is required at an audition.

6. Read and take notes in A Short Course In Photography, pp.129-145.  Take notes.
